Historic trim worth showing off
In Historic Kenwood and the Old Northeast the window casing is often the nicest thing in the room. Covering it with an outside-mount shade is a waste of the house. Inside mount inside the frame keeps the trim visible and the shade reads like it was built with the place — which on a bungalow is the entire difference between looking right and looking added on.
Downtown is a different job entirely. The towers along Beach Drive and the Edge District have floor-to-ceiling glass with almost no mounting depth and building rules about the exterior appearance. Ceiling-pocket mounting and a white street-side backing solve both. And because that glass is west and south facing over the water, solar screen fabric does more for the room than any drapery ever will.

St. Petersburg questions
Will blinds cover up my original window trim?
Not if they are mounted inside the frame, which is what we recommend on any Kenwood or Old Northeast house. The casing stays fully visible and the shade sits back inside the opening.
My downtown condo has no depth above the window. Where does the shade mount?
Into the ceiling pocket if the building left one, or into the ceiling itself just in front of the glass. Both keep the head rail out of sight, and we keep the fascia as slim as the drop allows.
Do you cover Snell Isle and Shore Acres?
Yes, along with Crescent Lake, Jungle Terrace, the Edge District and the rest of St. Pete.
