Two Tampas, two measuring problems
Anything built before the war in Hyde Park, Palma Ceia or Seminole Heights has windows that are no longer square. The house has settled, the frames have been painted a dozen times, and a stock blind off a shelf leaves a light gap down one side that you will notice every single morning. We measure each opening at three heights and three widths and build to the tightest one, which is the entire reason these come out looking fitted instead of hung.
Downtown and the Channel District are the opposite problem: floor-to-ceiling impact glass, no depth to mount into, and a building association that cares what your window looks like from the street. Do you work in South Tampa and Hyde Park?
Constantly — it is our densest pocket of work in the city, along with Seminole Heights. Older homes there almost always need made-to-order sizes, which is what we do anyway.
My condo association has rules about what the windows look like from outside. Can you work with that?
Yes. Most Tampa towers require a white or off-white backing on anything facing the street. Send us the association rule and we spec the roller to it — you still choose whatever fabric and colour you want on the inside face.
Can you mount on impact windows without drilling the frame?
In most cases yes. On impact glass we mount into the ceiling pocket or the drywall return above the opening rather than the frame itself, which keeps the window warranty intact.
